ECO’s central office is currently manned by Anne Perry, who looks after the Finances and the Community Centre - more commonly referred to as Centre 67 (it was in 1967 that Cumbria County Council turned the building into a Community Centre - it has nothing to do with being no.67 on Chapel Street).
ECO’s Core activities are currently funded/supported by:
-
•Francis C. Scott Charitable Trust
-
•Tudor Trust
-
•Eden Local Area Committee for rent
-
•Cumbria Community Foundation
-
•Management/Admin fees from the various Projects.
-
•Fundraising events and donations from individuals and some businesses raised over £4,500 in the year to 31 March 2009
-
•Some of the Trustees are putting in many voluntary hours in strategic planning, fund raising and general office tasks
The office is upstairs in the Centre and serves as the hub for all the Projects.
CENTRE 67
ECO leases the whole of the building from Cumbria County Council. There are several spaces available for hire.
Main Hall
The Hall has recently been refurbished by the Euphoric Circus Project, with grants from the Youth Capital and Youth Opportunity Funds. It is now equipped with Trapeze equipment.
Regular hirers of the Hall are:
-
• Euphoric Circus for general Circus Skills sessions for Freerunning/Acrobatic sessions for Trapeze
-
• Debbie Chambers for Aerobic and Pilates classes
-
• East Cumbria Family Support Group for “Jump to It” sessions
-
• Helen O’Grady Drama Academy for Drama classes
Not-so-regular uses are for private parties (great for children’s birthdays), indoor sport and, recently, the Fire and Rescue Service for Road Awareness Training. Also the venue for the Lantern Workshops prior to the annual Festival of Fire and Light. Matt Harris uses it for occasional indoor football days
It only costs £6/hr for children/young people activities and £12/hr for adult based activities.
The Foyer Area is used by the Community Café and as Drop-In space. It can also be hired for private use.
There are two smaller rooms, the Blue Room and the Red Room.
The Blue Room (which is no longer blue!) is currently used by the Eden Time Bank as their office.
The Red Room is a space for more private meetings, with sofas as well as table and chairs (8-10 people).
The Art Space is upstairs, has a graffiti wall and good light for arty things. It offers plenty of space for other activities too: Woodworking workshops/demonstrations, band practise, larger meetings.
There is also a fully equipped Kitchen, mainly used by the Café but is also available for hire.
Hire Costs are low, so come and use the facilities before we put them up: £6/hr for children/young people activities and £12/hr for adult based activities (see Appleby Community Centre Booking Form for Terms and Conditions).
